Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances will set toes tapping with charm, zest and percussive power, leading us right into Aldo López-Gavilán’s dazzling technique and rhythmic fire as soloist in his own composition for piano and orchestra, proving his status as “simply a genius, a star.” As a finale to the first weekend, Brahms’ First Symphony, fourteen years in the making, explodes with layer on layer of splendor, drama and energy. It’s an evening to share in the thrill of the creative genius.
