Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances will set toes tapping with charm, zest and percussive power, leading us right into Aldo López-Gavilán’s dazzling technique and rhythmic fire as soloist in his own composition for piano and orchestra, proving his status as “simply a genius, a star.” As a finale to the first weekend, Brahms’ First Symphony, fourteen years in the making, explodes with layer on layer of splendor, drama and energy.
